Tuiliqs?

I'm looking to replace a well-worn Brooks tuiliq. Brooks no longer seems to be in business. So, I've been contacting custom wetsuit makers to see if any of them might duplicate the tuiliq I have.

One, Axxe wetsuits in Japan, might be willing. They're a very high-end, second-generation outfit that specializes in surf wetsuits. They make make one suit at a time, by hand, and use excellent neoprene. They have not yet committed to making a tuiliq for me. But they haven't said no. Yet. Yesterday they asked if other people might also be interested.

That's a question I couldn't answer.

Has anyone else been looking for a new neoprene tuiliq? If so, where did you find one? Would you have any interest in a custom one?

There's a new company in Eastern Canada making tuiliks, Sea Spray:

I recently ordered one.

It hasn't arrived yet, plus I've never tried a tuilik before, so I don't know yet. I did have an email conversation with Jacqueline, the woman making them, and she seems very helpful. I'm all for supporting people and companies who want to make this sort of gear, as that is a plus for all of us!

Sad to hear that about Brooks. Looks like there is still stock in the world though.

I have two from Reed Chillcheater that I like. They’ll make it for custom for you and your cockpit off a sizing sheet. I recommend taking their sizing sheet to a tailor for your body measurements vs DIY. You can get it in regular aquatherm or fleece lined. Mine are regular aquatherm only for all season wear. I add fleece if I need to.

Thanks. all.

Unfortunately, the coaming on my kayak is quite small, and I prefer skin-out neoprene for winter paddling because there's little evaporative cooling. So, I've always ordered custom tuiliqs. A pin-in-the-neck. But warm and water tight.

I had a nice conversation with Jacqueline from Vitaminsea. Very nice and very accommodating. Unfortunately Canadian imports are subject to 50% tariff. She plans on coming to Delmarva.

Hi folks, i  can bring a tuiliq from Brooks. They are still very much in business but don't ship to the US anymore.  Chessy

Chessy --

That's a great offer. How would I get in touch with Mark at Brooks to order? He didn't answer my email earlier, and the site isn't reachable.

-- Dan Segal

Oh, he won't answer you. If you know what want, let me know. If you are not sure, let's chat. I have brought at least 2 dozen tuiliqs down over the last couple of years. It is insanely difficult. Chessy

Chessy --

Yes, I know exactly what I want: another custom tuilq just like the one I got from Brooks in October of 2020. I have the order number. So, Brooks should have the requested dimensions and materials.

And it's true, no response from them again.

-- Dan

Hi Dan, any chance you have the dimensions on the order? Or you could send me the order number and I will check on it. Chessy
